Autumn's here

A gloriously warm and golden day; the morning's thrilling mackerel skies giving way to clearest blue. In the late afternoon, the sun caught this Pyracantha (which is backed by a claret-coloured Boston Ivy) and seemed to set it on fire. My happy-snappy little camera hasn't captured it very well at all but it gives a faint flavour of the full effect.

The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

Yes, those leaves have started falling here in Devon Juliet. What about on Muddy Island?

I love those fiery and burnished autumnal colours but am already shrinking inwardly at the thought of what lies beyond autumn, especially as sunshine has been in such short supply here this summer. Don't think I have enough Vitamin D reserves to see me through . . .

Hi Clare - very glad to meet my Australian red dot!!! I've only had the map a couple of days, so who knows, there may be other dots appearing in Australia before long and you won't feel so alone out there! Welcome to the world of bloggin - I've just visited yours. Good luck with it - you will soon become addicted. I've only been blogging since earlier this summer and am still not really sure why I do it - for lots of different reasons, probably, depending on my mood. I can see from your reading list that we share an enthusiasm for Alexander McCall Smith - is that how you landed on the muddy island? The new Sunday Philosophy Club book will be out soon over here and I can't wait - look forward to sharing my thoughts on it and hearing yours.
