* = The Beach This Evening - an acronym shamelessly pilfered from Elizaphanian (you can see Sam's TBTM and TBTE Mersea photos collected together here ).
Stunning! (But I think that, secretly, you're just posting these photos to get the job of official photographer for the covers of Anita Shreve's novels. A cunning plot, Mrs Muddy Island.)
Why would I want to return to live in such a beautiful place when I can enjoy earthquakes in this pissant swamp?
Actually, Juliet, I viewed the building of that walkway with some trepidation that it would attract the hoi polloi, with all their jetskis and aftershave, from the commercial end of the island, but from my limited visits to Coast Road since it was built, so far it only seems to be the nice quiet wind-powered community that has migrated.
Hi all - it looks so peaceful, doesn't it, but actually it was amazingly noisy, with hundreds of geese settling down for the night, plus seagulls having a last squark, curlew, and all kinds of wading birds chattering away. Unfortunately, I ran out of batteries or I'd have made a little film clip.
Greg- I too had big reservations about that walkway, but they've evaporated over a short time - even the fact that it's made of wood-effect plastic-type stuff, because it was deliberately sourced from recycled plastic (by Dougal the Wildlife Ranger/blogger's wife, as it happens) and it has been put together in a sympathetically 'wiggly' fashion and is never slippery even after it's been covered by the tide. It means I can nip quickly to that end of the beach without having to wear waders, which is a godsend!
