The children's books age-banding debate rages on.
The Society of Authors has added an extra session at their Cambridge Children’s Writers & Illustrators Conference, 29-31 August, to include a discussion on age guidance. They are keen to air all views.
The session will be chaired by R4’s Libby Purves and will include Philip Pullman and Anne Fine, prime movers behind the No to Age Banding appeal, Graham Marks from Publishing News and Becky Stradwick UKHQ Children’s Buyer from Borders. Publishers have also been invited to take part. Other conference speakers include Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen, Hollywood scriptwriter William Nicholson, multi-award winner Anthony Browne and rising star of illustration, Polly Dunbar.

I've been following this issue from across the pond. It's very interesting to see so many people so involved. On the one hand, I like to see people acknowledge the power of books to infuence their readers, on the other hand I don't like anything that will keep books away from people who want to read them.
And, if it works in Britain, it's sure to find it's way to America. Unless it's a really good health care system or trains and buses that take you everywhere you want to go.
