Mersea Boxing Day Swim 2008

The now traditional Mersea Boxing Day Swim in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution took place on the beach at West Mersea at 11 am today.

My Boy took part, and his father gamely waded in ahead of the participants to take some action photos!

Most of these photos are by Mr Musings (that's him in the water in the black Colchester Rugby Club shirt!), but some of the land-based snaps are by me. (If anyone who took part would like to see all the pics we took, please drop me a line and and I'll send you a link to Mr Musings' website gallery.)

Insane totally insane. I am strictly a hot (very very hot) bath person can not even conceive of dipping a toe in the waters around UK even in the highest summer they are still to cold.

For confirmed wimps like me, the only thing to say is - wow. Admirable valour - but I'm with Vetnurse, I think.

Wow! and to think I was complaining of cold while wrapped in several layers on dry land! I hope the RNLI made millions.

I'm the girl in the 7th photo and I'm still feeling cold 12 hours later just looking at it but the support and atmosphere made it all worth while - happy xmas everyone!

Wow - what an amazing event. Thanks for all the photos.. I hope the RNLI did really well. We have nothing even remotely like it here in Northants, though some of us did bravely venture out for the morning dog walk without a coat. Not quite the same. You must be really proud of boy and Mr Musings!

Oh! Have been nursing a horrid cold all over Christmas and then I decided today, frozen and sniffly as I am, to visit your blog - now I feel even colder and more sniffly than ever. These photos really 'do my head in' and I know it is all in a good cause but, you know, I think some of those people would go in anyway....(I shudder).
Thank goodness you were there to record the day because I am sure no-one would believe it. I wish them all a Healthy New Year ;-)
